Clark Planetarium expands Sensory Friendly Saturdays to weekly events

Clark Planetarium is excited to share that its Sensory Friendly Saturdays program is expanding to a weekly schedule, offering the experience every Saturday rather than just the first Saturday of each month. Starting May 31, 2025, the event will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This expansion and schedule adjustment are designed to better accommodate families and individuals seeking a more accessible and inclusive experience.

Sensory Friendly Saturdays provide a welcoming environment for guests with sensory sensitivities. During these hours, the planetarium adjusts lighting and sound levels throughout its free exhibit areas, as well as in the Hansen Dome and Northrop Grumman IMAX theatres. These modifications create a calmer, safer, and more enjoyable atmosphere. Additionally, sensory support items such as noise-canceling headphones, sunglasses, weighted blankets, needs charts, magnifying glasses, and sensory objects are available upon request at the ticketing counter.

In December 2023, Clark Planetarium earned Sensory Inclusiveâ„¢ Certification through KultureCity, a leading nonprofit organization promoting sensory accessibility and inclusion. This certification ensures that all frontline staff are trained to recognize and support guests with sensory processing needs, and that proper tools and accommodations are available to enhance their experience.

“Our goal is to make space and science accessible to everyone,” said Duke Johnson, Director of Clark Planetarium. “By expanding Sensory Friendly Saturdays and maintaining our KultureCity certification, we’re reaffirming our commitment to ensuring that all visitors can enjoy what we have to offer.”

Clark Planetarium is located at 110 S 400 W, Salt Lake City, Utah 84101.
