The Utah Democratic Party announced its newly elected party leadership and adopted a new platform at the 2025 State Convention held in Ogden, Utah. Delegates from across the state gathered to vote, connect, and reaffirm the party’s commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive Utah.
A hearty congratulations to the newly elected officers:
- Brian King, Chair
- Susan Merrill, Vice Chair
- Brad Dickter, Secretary
- Catherine Voutaz, Treasurer
“I’m honored to have earned the trust of our delegates to serve as Chair for the next two years. Over the past four months, we’ve traveled the state, hearing directly from Utah Democrats about their hopes, frustrations, and vision for the future,” said Brian King, newly elected Chair.
“Today’s incredible turnout shows what we’ve known all along: Utah Democrats are energized, motivated, and ready to fight for the values we share.
This is a new era and this is our moment. As Chair, I’m ready to lead the charge to hold out-of-touch Republicans accountable, to connect with voters across the state and political spectrum, and to flip seats from the top of the ballot to the bottom. Monopolies, in politics and otherwise, aren’t good for anyone and Utahns deserve better.
We have the vision. We have the momentum. We have the drive. Now, let’s get to work, and let’s win.”
“I’m delighted to pass the torch to Brian, these leaders bring energy, experience, and a deep understanding of our communities across the state,” said Diane Lewis, outgoing Chair. “I’m excited to see how they move forward together for the future of Utah.”
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker shared a message in a recorded video. “Utah Democrats know a thing or two about showing up to the fight,” he shared. “You know how to stand up against the odds and get things done.”
The State Convention hosted approximately 600 delegates in person, with others participating remotely. A record number of 1,450 delegates voted in the new party executive committee.
In addition to electing new leadership, the Party adopted a new platform that remains grounded in our collective core values of economic security, equality of opportunity, and investing in the common good. The Utah Democratic Party fights for policies that ensure no one is denied access to basic human services, promotes fairness and equity, and invests in thriving communities built on evidence, science, and sustainable stewardship.
