“We’re delighted to bring Dr. Ben Carson to UVU,” says Justin Jones, Herbert Institute Executive Director. “At a time of healing for our campus and having an expert on the brain talk to us about turning “Pain into Purpose,” is just what we need. He has a history of commitment to civil civic dialogue, and we welcome his thoughts at this pivotal time.”
Dr. Benjamin S. Carson was the youngest major division director in Johns Hopkins Hospital’s history when he was appointed Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at just 33 years old. He is world-renowned for performing the first fully successful separation of type-2 vertical craniopagus twins. Dr. Carson has received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, and has been awarded over 70 honorary doctorate degrees despite his challenging upbringing as a child to a single mother with only a third-grade education. Dr. Carson graduated from Yale University and earned his M.D. from the University of Michigan Medical School. He and his wife are proud parents and grandparents.
