Community leader Kara Toone announces run for Utah House District 14

Kara Toone, a longtime Republican Party organizer and lifelong Utahn, announced today that she will run for the Utah House of Representatives in District 14. The seat will be open following the departure of Rep. Karianne Lisonbee, who has represented the district since 2017.

Toone has called Davis County home since childhood and has dedicated more than twenty years to serving the Clearfield and Syracuse communities. She has worked closely with local government and the business community as chair of the Davis Chamber of Commerce Legislative Affairs Committee, and she has strengthened the Republican Party through service on the Utah Republican State Central Committee, chairing the Davis County Organizing and Nominating Conventions, leading the Davis County Republican Women, and serving as a precinct chair as well as a county and state delegate. She is also a recipient of the Utah Federation of Republican Women’s Rising Star Award.

In addition to her political work, Toone serves as Executive Director of the Davis Education Foundation, where she collaborates with educators, families, and community partners to support students across the district.

“House District 14 has been my home for most of my life, and I care deeply about the people who live here,” Toone said. “I am running because strong communities are built by people who show up, listen, and work hard. My experience in education, community service, and the Republican Party has prepared me to be a strong voice for our families and neighborhoods.”

Toone said she is running because residents deserve a representative who is accessible, responsive, and committed to listening. She noted that her background in education and grassroots leadership has prepared her to navigate both the challenges and opportunities facing Clearfield and Syracuse.

Toone was born in Vernal and grew up in Davis County. She attended Viewmont High School and later earned degrees from Snow College, Weber State University, and a Master of Public Policy from the University of Utah. She and her husband, Logan, have lived in Clearfield for more than twenty years, raising their four children in the community they call home.
