Mike Bird announced today that he is running for Salt Lake County Council, citing a desire to bring steady leadership and careful oversight to a role that directly affects the daily lives of county residents.
A lifelong Murray resident, Bird was born and raised in the community he now seeks to represent. He and his wife, Kim, are raising their four sons in Salt Lake County, where Bird says his connection to the community has shaped how he views public service.
Bird’s decision to run reflects his view that the Salt Lake County Council plays a central role in how the county functions and how well it serves its residents. He believes the position demands leaders who are prepared to engage deeply with complex issues, balance competing priorities, and make decisions that hold up
over time. Bird is seeking the seat because the work of the council requires steady judgment and a clear understanding of how policy choices affect families, neighborhoods, and the long-term health of the community.
“County government has a real impact on people’s lives,” Bird said. “I’m running because this is a role where leadership and accountability truly matter.”
Bird has a background in financial management and said the county budget deserves close, disciplined attention. He believes residents should be able to trust that public dollars are being managed carefully and that decisions are made with families and communities in mind.
The Salt Lake County Council oversees county policy and budget decisions that affect public safety, services, and long-term planning. Bird is focused on approaching that work with seriousness and respect for the taxpayers who fund it.
Bird previously ran for public office in one of the state’s most competitive districts and is known for his ability to connect with voters across the political spectrum while remaining grounded in conservative principles.
