J. Lowry Snow has announced his candidacy for Utah State Senate District 9 as a Forward Party candidate. Snow offers voters a pragmatic, people-first alternative to partisan gridlock and status quo politics. Snow’s decision to run builds on a multigenerational family legacy of public service in Utah that dates back to the late 1800s. Guided by that tradition—and by a deep commitment to Utah’s communities and natural environment—Snow is launching a campaign focused on practical solutions, civic innovation and accountable governance.
“My campaign is about putting people ahead of party politics and solving the problems Utahns face right now,” Snow said. “Voters deserve a government that listens, adapts and delivers results—not one constrained by rigid ideologies or political extremes.”
Snow’s campaign is anchored by three core priorities: opening the legislative process to District 9 residents, addressing Utah’s housing affordability crisis and advancing science-based policies to improve air quality and protect the Great Salt Lake.
Snow proposes a modern, voter-driven approach to representation that gives District 9 residents a stronger and more direct voice in the legislative process. Constituents will be able to identify priorities, provide real-time input and engage meaningfully before decisions are made.
“This isn’t about replacing representative democracy—it’s about strengthening it,” Snow said. “We have the tools to bring people into the process in ways that weren’t possible before, and I intend to use them to ensure District 9 residents are heard and respected.”
Beyond modernizing how the government listens, Snow is also focused on addressing the economic pressures facing families across Utah. With housing costs continuing to outpace wages, he is committed to advancing bipartisan, data-driven solutions that expand housing supply, support smart density and remove unnecessary regulatory barriers—while respecting local character and community needs.
“When housing costs rise faster than wages, communities start to break down,” said Peter Corroon, former Mayor of Salt Lake County and District 9 resident. “Salt Lake City depends on teachers, nurses, service workers and first responders being able to live near where they work. Addressing affordability isn’t about politics—it’s about keeping our neighborhoods functional and our economy strong.”
In addition to economic stability, Snow is prioritizing action on two of Utah’s most urgent environmental challenges: air pollution and the decline of the Great Salt Lake. He supports strong, science-based policies that protect public health, responsibly manage water resources and safeguard wildlife and surrounding communities.
Snow emphasized that his candidacy offers voters a clear alternative to partisan gridlock and top-down politics by putting decision-making power back in the hands of constituents. His campaign is built around modernizing how legislators engage with the public, creating ongoing and meaningful input rather than one-way communication. Snow argues that better outcomes come from collaboration, data and community-driven priorities, not rigid party lines.
Michelle Quist, Chair of the Forward Party of Utah, welcomed Snow’s announcement: “The Snow family has been integral to good government and collaborative problem-solving in Utah for decades, if not longer. We’re thrilled to have J. Lowry Snow join our effort to continue that tradition. In this defining moment of national unrest, it’s no small decision that Snow has chosen to join our movement and offer an alternative to today’s political extremism. We look forward to Snow’s contributions to this great state as an elected official free to represent and empower his constituents’ interests, and not party bosses.”
