Yianni (John) Ioannou, is running for Salt Lake County Mayor.
Yianni’s public service is a testament to hard work, dedication, and vision. Born in Greek Cyprus, a tiny island in the Mediterranean, Yianni was inspired by the American dream and immigrated legally to the US.
Yianni knows County operations inside out. As Division Director of the Salt Lake County/Salt Lake City Landfill since 2007, Yianni transformed waste and recycling operations with innovative concepts and practices. YIANNI knows first-hand, the importance of fiscal responsibility, transparency, safety, and accountability.
Some of Yianni’s priorities include:
- Public Safety and the Unified Police Department (UPD). Yianna supports continuing the UPD model, which serves and protects over 250,000 County residents.
- Reducing the Size of County Government. Salt Lake County has become wall-to-wall cities. In the 1990s, there were over 300,000 residents living in Unincorporated Salt Lake County. Today, that number is about 11,000. Despite the declining number of residents getting services from the County, Salt Lake County Government has grown beyond its means.
- Duplicate Services. Salt Lake County is no longer a Municipal Services Provider. Cities provide their own services, and those few residents living in the Unincorporated areas of Salt Lake County get most of their services from the Municipal Services District. Yet, unnecessary duplicate services exist, costing County taxpayers millions of dollars.-
- Taxes. Yianni is “allergic” to taxes and promises to scale back the County Government, reduce administrative bureaucracy, eliminate duplicate services, and provide tax relief to its citizens.
It’s time for change. It’s time for accountability and fiscal responsibility, and it’s time we have a Mayor who knows how to keep his hands out of your wallet. It’s time to elect Yianni (John) Ioannou as your Salt Lake County Mayor!
