A new survey from Public Policy Polling finds 71% of Utahns say Sen. Orrin Hatch should retire at the end of his current term.
The survey, released on Wednesday, found only 19% think Hatch should run for another term in 2018.
Partisans across the spectrum think Hatch should hang it up instead of running for a third term.
- 62% of Republicans want Hatch to retire.
- 80% of independents say Hatch should not run for another term.
- 84% of Democrats think Hatch should make this current term his last.
The survey also measured Utahns attitudes on a number of issues:
- 81% of Utah voters support background checks on gun purchases.
- 65% of Utahns want the U.S. Senate to move forward on confirmation hearings for Barack Obama’s Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland.
- 65% of residents want an independent commission for redistricting. Right now, political lines are drawn by the state legislature.
- 64% support legalizing medical marijuana.
- 52% favor expanding Medicaid.
