Salt Lake City Begins Construction of University to Downtown Bikeway

Salt Lake City will begin construction of the next phase of the University to Downtown Bikeway on Tuesday, September 13.

The project will add new paint-only bikeways and install signs along portions of 300 South, 400 South, 1000 East, 1100 East, 1200 East, and Bueno Avenue.

Pavement maintenance including a slurry seal, pothole patching, and gutter repair has been coordinated with the project.

A new striping design from 600 E to 900 E will include one lane in each direction, a center turn lane, and bike lanes. The other blocks along the route include either bicycle symbols or bike lane striping with no widespread changes to parking or travel lanes.

Residents and businesses will experience minor construction impacts:

·      300 South from 600 East to 940 East will be closed for one day for slurry seal pavement maintenance, tentatively Tuesday, September 13, weather permitting. The street is anticipated to reopen that evening.  Cross-street traffic will not be affected on 700 East or 900 East.

·      On-street parking may be restricted on one or two additional days for street painting on portions of 300 South (east of 600 East), and one or two block sections of 400 South, 1000 East, 1100 East, and 1200 East.

·      Throughout the construction area, drivers may experience minor delays or temporary lane closures.

The project is expected to be complete by mid-November.
