Lee to Trump on SCOTUS Nomination: No Thanks

Donald Trump puts Mike Lee on his short list of potential Supreme Court nominees, but the senator says he’s not interested in making a job change.

Reports The Hill:

The preliminary list of Trump’s potential Supreme Court nominees mentions Lee and notes his experience on the Senate Judiciary Committee and his clerkship under Judge Samuel Alito.

Lee’s spokesperson Conn Carroll, however, said that the senator is not interested in the offer.”Sen. Lee already has the job he wants, which is why he is campaigning to represent the great people of Utah again this year,” he said, adding that this decision “does not change Sen. Lee’s mind about Trump in any way whatsoever.” Politico was the first to report that Lee was not interested.

Although Lee never formally endorsed the Republican nominee due to “concerns,” he has lauded Trump on his efforts to fill the Supreme Court with conservative justices.

“Look, I have acknowledged in the past that I have got some concerns, and a lot of people share those concerns, and those things are still there. I will say that I really liked last week the list that he put out with regard to people he might appoint to the Supreme Court of the United States. There were some very good people on that list,” Lee said in May in response to a shortlist published by the Trump campaign at the time.
