Press Release: Doug Owens Calls for Strengthening Education and Job Training

Owens seeks to improve education and job training programs as final plank in new jobs plan.

Fourth Congressional District candidate Doug Owens has announced the final plank of his new plan to create good-paying jobs and grow Utah’s economy. Owens has already called for eliminating unnecessary and burdensome regulations on businesses, lowering the corporate tax rate and closing legal loopholes that permit offshore tax havens, as well as expanding Utah’s outdoor tourism and recreation economy.

As the fourth and final plank in his new jobs plan, Doug Owens is announcing his commitment to strengthen Utah’s public education system, invest in Utah schools and educators, make college more affordable, and improve apprenticeship and job training programs.

“Education is the best pathway forward to a living-wage job,” said Owens. “We need to do more to strengthen education for our kids, make college more affordable, and expand apprenticeship and job training programs. Unlike my opponent, who voted against bipartisan legislation to improve our schools, I’ll always put Utah students, parents, and teachers first.”

Doug Owens is a Salt Lake City native, husband, and father of four. As a highly-respected business defense attorney, he has 25 years’ experience helping businesses succeed. Six generations of Doug’s family have called Utah home. From those ancestors, he inherited the values he’ll take to Washington: hard work, concern for his neighbors, an appreciation for Utah’s unique beauty, and a desire to get things done.
