Cybersecurity: Why it Matters for Businesses Large & Small

As the statewide voice for business, the Salt Lake Chamber is taking an active role in the discussion of cybersecurity this October by participating in National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a month dedicated to recognizing the importance of cybersecurity awareness, from the IT department to the boardroom.

John A. Adams and Elaina Maragakis from Ray Quinney & Nebeker P.C. join the podcast to discuss cybersecurity, why businesses large and small should care, the legal issues surrounding cybersecurity, and the importance of creating plans to prevent and counter data-breaches.

 

About John A. Adams:

Mr. Adams is the former Managing Director of Ray Quinney & Nebeker (2007-2015) and is the current President, ex officio, of the firm.  He is a member of the Firm’s litigation section whose practice focuses on prosecuting and defending commercial litigation matters, particularly complex business disputes. Mr. Adams has experience in a wide variety of litigation fields including contracts and business torts, bank litigation, healthcare False Claim Act defense, Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement issues, nursing home payment issues, trust and estate litigation, insurance fraud and insurance coverage disputes.

Mr. Adams is also co-Chair of RQN’s Cybersecurity and Privacy practice group.  He assists clients in all aspects of legal compliance with data security laws, including helping companies minimize their risks by preparing Information Security Policies, including Data Breach Response Plans and Employee Data Security Policies.  In the event of a breach, he will also assist with managing a company’s compliance with breach notification laws.

Mr. Adams has significant trial experience, including having tried five jury cases in federal and state courts. He also has argued appeals in both federal and state courts.

About Elaina Maragakis

Ms. Maragakis is a shareholder and director and practices in Ray Quinney & Nebeker’s litigation section.  Her practice focuses on complex commercial litigation.  She has tried a significant number of cases, and has experience managing complex disputes through trial.

Ms. Maragakis is also co-Chair of RQN’s Cybersecurity and Privacy practice group.  She is a Certified Information Privacy Professional for the United States (IAPP/US).  She assists clients in all aspects of legal compliance with data security laws, including helping companies minimize their risks by preparing Information Security Policies, including Data Breach Response Plans and Employee Data Security Policies.  In the event of a breach, she assists with managing a company’s compliance with breach notification laws.

Ms. Maragakis has represented numerous companies in connection with contract and business disputes, intellectual property disputes, and class actions.  Ms. Maragakis has also represented a number of health care entities, including nursing homes and hospitals, in both litigation and medical staffing issues.
