Nominees Announced for 1st District Juvenile Court Vacancy

The 1st District Judicial Nominating Commission has selected nominees for a vacancy on the 1st District Juvenile Court. 

The vacancy results from the retirement of Judge Jeffrey Burbank, effective March 15, 2017.  The 1st Judicial District includes Box Elder, Cache, and Rich counties.  

The nominees for the vacancy are: Jacob Gordon, deputy county attorney, Cache County Attorney’s Office; R. Christian Hansen, attorney, Hillyard, Anderson & Olsen, P.C.; Kirk Morgan, chief deputy attorney, Box Elder County Attorney’s Office; James Swink, county attorney, Cache County Attorney’s Office; Janette White, assistant attorney general, Utah Attorney General’s Office.

Written comments can be submitted to the 1st District Judicial Nominating Commission Chair Jeff Packer at [email protected] or Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice, P.O. Box 142330, Salt Lake City, UT 84114-2330.  The deadline for written comments is noon Dec. 23, 2016. The Nominating Commission may request further information or conduct an investigation of the nominees after reviewing public comments.  After the public comment period, the names will be sent to Gov. Gary R. Herbert, who will have 30 days to make an appointment. Gov. Herbert’s appointee is subject to confirmation by the Utah Senate.
