World Trade Center Utah participated in the Sept. 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance by volunteering at the Utah Food Bank.
WTC Utah is part of a global network of World Trade Centers around the world that will be uniting to remember the attacks at the New York headquarters, the Pentagon and Pennsylvania.
The Sept. 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance is a federally-recognized day set aside to pay tribute to the victims of 9/11 and the men and women who rose up in service in the days and weeks following the attacks. Last year, tens of thousands of Americans united on this day with a common purpose to volunteer.
“While reflecting once again on this tragedy, the Sept. 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance gives us the opportunity to unite as a country and better our communities through volunteering,” said Miles Hansen, president and CEO of WTC Utah. “Utahns are known for their humanitarian efforts and the spirit of collaboration is very strong here.”
According to a survey sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service, Utah ranked number one in the nation for volunteerism with more than 40% of its residents volunteering in 2015. In total, Utah residents gave 170.36 million hours of service in a single year.
Last year, the Utah Food Bank benefited from 83,418 hours of volunteer service – the equivalent of 40 full-time employees. WTC Utah chose to volunteer at the Utah Food Bank because of the non-profit’s efforts to fight hunger statewide and its contributions to all 29 counties. As Utah’s only member of Feeding America’s nationwide network of more than 200 food banks, they are part of the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief organization.
