The 33rd Annual Great Salt Lake Chili Affair returns on Wednesday, October 2, from 5:30 –8:30 p.m. at The Salt Palace Convention Center, 100 South West Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah.
The spiciest event of the year features Salt Lake City’s most renowned chefs cooking up their favorite chili creations. Proceeds from the event go toward helping families and individuals overcome homelessness and move back into a home. Tables and individual tickets are on sale now.
“Helping people move home is not only this year’s theme, but the goal of The Road Home year-round as we work to improve the lives of people experiencing homelessness in our city,” said Becki Bradford, Chili Affair event chair for The Road Home. “We are a 96-year-old organization that this year alone, has provided emergency shelter for more than 8,000 people, including over 1,500 children and housing for more than 3,000 adults and children. And we couldn’t be this successful without the donations we receive from our many supporters. We hope to see the community come out, enjoy great food and support our mission to move people into their forever homes.”
The Road Home provides a variety of services to help people overcome homelessness including: emergency shelter by operating the Midvale Family Resource Center, the upcoming Men’s Homeless Resource Center in South Salt Lake; supportive services including a housing focused case management team that offers assistance in finding housing and employment; and housing programs that aim to move families and individuals out of emergency shelters and into permanent homes.
Families and friends are invited to taste gourmet chili, salads, breads, and desserts from 14 of the best local chefs along the Wasatch Front. After sampling the wide variety of chili, attendees and judges will vote for their favorites and awards will be presented to the chefs at the end of the evening.
This year’s event includes a silent auction, cash prize opportunity drawing and live entertainment from Lord Graham Russell, Walter James and Stacey Board with special guest emcee Jonni Lightfoot. Kids will be entertained at the supervised children’s area with bounce houses, face painting, scales and tails, games and more.
