1912 – Democrat Woodrow Wilson wins a landslide victory over Republican incumbent William Howard Taft.

1941 – The Japanese minister of war orders the Combined Japanese Fleet to bomb Pearl Harbor, along with Malaysia, the Dutch East Indies, and the Philippines. A little over a month later, Pearl Harbor is attacked.

1994 – George Foreman, age 45, becomes boxing’s oldest heavyweight champion when he defeats 26-year-old Michael Moorer in Las Vegas.

2009 – Army major Nidal Malik Hasan, goes on a shooting rampage at Fort Hood in Texas, killing 13 and wounding 30.
