Utah One of Five States to Never Have a Governor Return to Office

When Utah's governors leave office, they stay pretty much gone.

A new analysis by Smart Politics finds that the Beehive State is one of just 5 states that has never had a governor return to power after leaving office. The other states are Hawaii, Kansas, Nevada and Wyoming.

Overall, 144 governors have returned to the office after leaving. Those numbers stretch back all the way to the late 1700's. More recently, 74 governors have accomplished the feat since 1900.

Mississippi and New Jersey each have seen 10 governors record an interrupted term in that time. Georgia has seen that happen nine times, followed by Tennessee with seven. Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Ohio have had six governors return to office.
