The chairman of the board of directors for Overstock.com, Inc., Jonathan E. Johnson III, has been named as the Utah Technology Council’s Trustee of the Year.
The Utah Technology Council is a nonprofit organization that serves as business resource for life science and high-tech companies in the state. Johnson has been a trustee with the Utah Technology Council since 2013.
“The Utah Technology Council is an active force in Utah, helping Utah tech companies share best practices and advocate for change in Utah,” said Johnson. “Its membership includes some of the best companies and people in the state. It is great to work in the trenches with them.”
“Jonathan is actively engaged in the Utah Technology Council, serving on our executive committee and co-chairing our Public Policy Forum. With his leadership and rolled-up-sleeves efforts, the Utah Technology Council was influential in getting key education reforms enacted into law during the 2015 legislative session,” said Richard Nelson, president and CEO of the Utah Technology Council. “I personally value Jonathan’s contributions and look forward to continuing to work with him on Utah Technology Council priorities.”
Johnson has been the chairman of the board at Overstock.com since April 2014. Prior to that appointment, he served in a number of executive roles at the company since September 2002, including executive vice chairman, acting chief executive officer, president, senior vice president and general counsel. Before joining Overstock.com, he served various positions with TenFold Corporation, including chief financial officer, executive vice president, senior vice president and general counsel, practiced law in the Los Angeles with two large international law firms where his practice focused on mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings, international transactions and general corporate work, and served as a judicial clerk at the Utah Supreme Court for Justice Leonard H. Russon. Johnson holds a bachelor's degree in Japanese from Brigham Young University, studied for a year at Osaka University of Foreign Studies in Japan, and received his law degree from the J. Reuben Clark, Jr. Law School at Brigham Young University.
