Rep. Love Votes for Reconciliation

Congresswoman Mia Love voted for H.R. 3762, Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act.  This bill passed the Senate in December, and is now headed to the White House.

The bill would repeal Obamacare and defund Planned Parenthood.  It would be the first time the President has had these measures on his desk.

“Some have told us to stop wasting our time, that we would never get this repeal to the President’s desk,” Rep. Mia Love said.  “Well, we’ve heard the American people, I have been tireless in our efforts to support their will, and finally the President will be accountable to the American people.”

The bill on its way to the President’s desk would:

  • Defund Obamacare:  One of the most unpopular elements of the ACA is the ‘individual mandate’, which forces Americans to pay a fine if they don’t buy insurance.   In addition, in spite of the President’s promise to lower health care costs, premiums and deductibles have been rising, at a crushing cost to America’s families and workers.   More insurers are scaling back, or leaving the program again this year.  The negative impacts of the ACA continue to hurt people, especially the poor and middle-class.
  • Tax Relief:    In addition, the partial repeal would keep Rep Love’s promise to cut spending.  The Congressional Budget office (CBO) has determined it will reduce the deficit by $516 Billion.
  • Planned Parenthood:   Makes Planned Parenthood ineligible for the vast majority of the federal funding it currently receives.   Research shows taxpayer- funding for Planned Parenthood increased by nearly 5% in 2014.  But during that same period, cancer screenings dropped by 27%, and contraceptive services dropped by nearly 18%.  Planned Parenthood performed 323,999 abortions in 2014, about 887 per day.

“I made a promise to my constituents to repeal Obamacare and cut spending.  This reconciliation bill does that.” Rep. Love said.
