The Utah Broadband Project and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development will be hosting the 2013 Broadband Tech Summit on October 24, 2013 at the Utah Valley Convention Center in Provo, Utah.
Broadband infrastructure is a vital component in GOED’s information technology and software development economic cluster. The summit will feature breakout sessions on social media, website development, digital marketing, commercial broadband, smart schools and broadband planning for local governments.
Spencer P. Eccles, executive director of GOED will host the event. As the executive director, he oversees all business, tourism and film development, including international trade for the State of Utah.
“Utah has received national recognition for its extensive broadband infrastructure and high broadband adoption rate,” said Kelleigh Cole, manager of the Utah Broadband Project. “This free Summit will focus on how Utah can maximize this infrastructure to greater grow our economy, improve on many aspects of our community and increase adoption throughout the state.”
Featured keynote speaker, Bhargav J. Shah, is the senior vice president of technology at Overstock.com and is responsible for providing vision and leadership for developing and implementing technology initiatives within the organization as well as influencing business strategy through the innovative use of technology.
Glenn Ricart, founder and CTO of US Ignite, will give a morning keynote address at the event. US Ignite is a non-profit organization catalyzing new applications based on next-generation Internet technology. In August 2013, Ricart was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame for implementing the first Internet interconnection point.
Featured speaker Matthew Might is an assistant professor in the School of Computing at the University of Utah and a cybersecurity expert. Might has received research funding to investigate automated performance optimization, automated security analysis, provably secure software, high-performance next-generation programming languages and medical robotics safety verification.
With support from Broadband Tech Summit partners CenturyLink, Comcast, Google Fiber, Vivint iSchool Campus, Utah Rural Telecom Association, XMission, and Ballard Sphar, attendees will benefit from workshops that focus on aiding community planners, economic developers, government officials, business leaders, educators and other stakeholders in learning strategies to better improve broadband access, adoption and technology usage throughout the state.
