USTAR Launches Technology Acceleration Program

USTAR Logo 2015The Utah Science Technology and Research Initiative is pleased to announce it is accepting proposals for the pilot round of its pre-seed funding program, the Technology Acceleration Program, which is intended to support technology development and prototyping work in private industry in support of science and technology-related economic development in Utah.

TAP will provide funding to Utah-based science and technology start-ups and early stage companies. The purpose of the program is to accelerate science and technology companies to market entry, or to mature a new technology within an existing company.

“We are thrilled to launch our pilot new ventures program for State fiscal year 16,” said Thom Williams, managing director of USTAR. “We anticipate this program to be the catalyst for advancing technology through the development pipeline and ultimately create high-paying jobs and tax revenue to the State.”

The TAP Pilot is focused on technology in specific sectors and at certain maturity levels. Targeted technology sectors for this program include Automation and Robotics, Advanced Materials, Energy and Clean Technology and Life Sciences. Applicants demonstrating a clear fit with the targeted technology sectors will be preferentially considered. USTAR’s focus is to invest in Utah companies who’s technology is at certain maturation levels: specifically the proof of concept, validation, early product development stages.
