This morning, Representative Matt MacPherson filed at the Salt Lake County Clerk’s office to run for re-election to continue serving Utah House District 26.
“I’ve been a proud resident of West Valley City for over 20 years,” Rep. MacPherson said. “This is where I’ve raised my family, built a business, and learned firsthand what it takes to make ends meet. I love this community, and I’m deeply invested in its success.”
During his time in the Utah Legislature, MacPherson has passed legislation to support firearm safety, improve criminal justice, and ensure government efficiency. This past legislative session, he served on the House Education and House Government Operations Committees, and as Vice Chair of the Public Education Appropriations Subcommittee.
Among his highest priorities was HB195, Firearm Retention Amendments, which promotes safe storage practices to prevent accidents and protect children, while preserving the rights of responsible gun owners. Another of his highlighted bills is HB476, which allows individuals to make charitable donations through their state income tax returns to support the School Meals Debt Relief Fund. Rep. MacPherson has stated that his legislation reflects the “practical and balanced approach [his] community expects from their leaders.”
In his next term, MacPherson said his priorities will be to continue empowering parents in public education, defending constitutional rights, supporting law enforcement, and ensuring Utah remains economically strong.
Rep. MacPherson and his wife, Nicole, live in West Valley City, where they’ve raised their three children. His district encompasses parts of West Valley City, Magna, and Salt Lake City.
