Attorney and longtime Davis County resident Stephanie Hollist announced today that she is running for the Republican nomination for Utah State Senate District 7, entering a high-profile race that will draw statewide attention as she challenges the district’s long-serving incumbent. Hollist said she is running because, despite years of the same leadership, many of the district’s core challenges remain unaddressed.
“At its core, this race is about trust,” Hollist said. “People need to know that their government is listening, that their concerns matter, and that decisions are being made openly and responsibly. I’m running to help rebuild that trust and strengthen the relationship between this community and its government.”
Hollist believes Senate District 7 is ready for a fresh approach, one that moves beyond the status quo and reconnects residents with the decision-making process. Despite the incumbent’s nearly a quarter-century in the Utah Legislature, the district continues to struggle with housing affordability, infrastructure that has not kept pace with growth, and a growing sense of distance between residents and the institutions meant to serve them.
Known for her ability to listen, ask hard questions, and bring people together, Hollist says those skills will guide her approach as a senator focused on restoring public trust.
For nearly two decades, Hollist has worked at the intersection of law and policy, serving as a senior legal advisor to large, complex organizations in Utah, including 18 years at Weber State University. Her work has required deep expertise in state law and public policy, with decisions that directly affect budgets, operations, and quality of life. She is known for applying legal rigor and practical judgment to solve hard problems and ensure policies work in the real world.
Raised in Davis County and a resident for more than 35 years, Hollist says she understands both the history of the district and the pressures it faces today. Her campaign will focus on rebuilding public trust, improving housing affordability, planning infrastructure that responsibly accommodates growth, and ensuring state government works for the people it represents.Learn more about Hollist’s campaign by visiting: https://votestephaniehollist.com/
