AARP Utah to Host ‘Meet the Candidates’ Barbecue on August 31

AARP Utah is hosting a “Meet the Candidates” Barbecue on Wednesday, August 31 to provide members with an opportunity to hear directly from those running for office about their views concerning issues facing people 50+.  

Particular concerns in Utah include support for caregivers, creation of workplace retirement savings plans, and expansion of Medicaid.

At the national level, AARP is engaged in a campaign around itsTake a Stand initiative, which focuses on pressing presidential candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton to lay out their plans to update Social Security so that it’s financially sound with adequate benefits for generations to come.  Members of Congress are also being asked to make Social Security a priority and put serious proposals on the table.

WHO:              Candidates for Governor, U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, and area state legislative races (Governor Gary Herbert and Rep. Chris Stewart confirmed as well as their opponents, candidates for U.S. House of Representatives, and several state legislative candidates—more to be confirmed in the next 10 days)
