Local businesses and community leaders in the Uintah Basin area participated in the inaugural Regional International Business Forum presented by WTC Utah, which provided participants with tools, knowledge and resources to help navigate the international business scene.
One of these tools was the “Top 10 Tips to Help you Think, Act and Succeed Globally.”
Those in attendance at the forum learned about expansion into global markets and the impact exporting has on the local economy. Derek Miller, president and CEO of World Trade Center (WTC) Utah and the event’s keynote, focused on how every business is an international business. A workshop following Miller’s remarks presented attendees with the “Top 10 Tips to Help you Think, Act and Succeed Globally.” These tips provided an overview of what companies should be thinking about and doing if they are interested in exporting.
“With seven billion customers across the globe, there is plenty of room for Utah to take its place as a leader in the international economy,” said Miller. “Part of our purpose at WTC Utah is to support the Governor’s vision for Utah to be recognized as a premier global business destination, and we are working toward this goal by providing resources to businesses in all areas of Utah through our Regional International Business Forums.”
Partnering with the Utah Department of Workforce Services (DWS), World Trade Center Utah (WTC Utah) hosted the forum in Vernal, Utah in an effort to expand its services to rural parts of the state. Today’s forum was the first of four that will take place between now and July 2015 at various locations around Utah as part of the new WTC Rural Utah Outreach.
The Department of Workforce Services provides resources to job seekers, employers and community leaders in Utah. DWS has a physical presence through its more than thirty employment centers located around the state and numerous programs that help communities grow their economy.
During the forum, awards were presented to one local business and two outstanding individuals who have promoted and engaged in growing Utah’s economy through international expansion. The following received awards:
- Superior Drilling Products, Inc. received the 2014 World Trade Center Utah Vanguard in International Business Award
- Irene Hansen, executive director of the Duchesne County Economic Development Office and Chamber of Commerce, received the 2014 World Trade Center Utah Champion for International Business Award
- Tammie Lucero, director of the Uintah Basin Economic Development Office, received the 2014 World Trade Center Utah Champion for International Business Award
More than 60 community leaders, elected officials, business leaders and involved residents were in attendance.
