Representative Patrice Arent Calls For Closure of Campaign Finance Loopholes

Representative Patrice Arent, House Democratic Caucus Manager, is calling for the closure of a campaign finance loophole that allows some candidates for public office to use election funds for personal use, such as the purchase of personal vehicles.

She stated, “Democrats have been working on campaign finance issues since before 2000. This is an important issue to ensure the public trust, so that money donated is spent exactly how you would expect it to be used. The state regulates the majority of campaign finance laws, all the way down to municipal elections. Somehow this personal use exemption for county officials was overlooked.  Today I opened a bill file to close that loophole.”

The bill file is currently listed under the title “Limitations on the use of Campaign Funds at the County Level”.
